Great ape and human anatomy
– meet the experts

The chimpanzee is the closest living relative of humans and it’s anatomy has many similarities with human anatomy. Closer inspection reveals many differences, which can tell us about human evolution and about the connections between anatomy and behavior.

In the videos, you can meet experts studying the different anatomies of chimpanzees and humans.

The videos show a dead chimpanzee getting dissected and the experts compare organs and skull from humans and animals. The specimens are all part of the collections at the Natural History Museum of Denmark and the Panum Institute at University of Copenhagen. The chimpanzee is a male that lived in a in a Danish zoological garden, and was donated to the museum after it’s death for research and educational purposes.
